10 schools in Iloilo City, province get bomb threats
At least ten schools in Iloilo City and the province received bomb threats either through electronic mail (e-mail) or through their social media pages.
The Iloilo National High School (INHS) received a bomb threat through e-mail and its Facebook pages at 12:26 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025. The threat was sent by a social media account bearing the handle “Nestor Villagracia.”
The reason cited for the bomb scare is alleged unfair treatment of a faculty member.
“Ini-i-stalk ng aming ICT. Hindi mo na siya makita. Pero kaninang madaling araw nang umuwi ako, nag-active na siya ulit,” said Delorah Cecilia Fantilla, principal of Iloilo National High School.
At past 6 a.m., West Visayas State University (WVSU) Main Campus, that is in front of INHS, received a bomb threat from the same social media account.
“Time wasting naman kasi dahil magkaklase pa sana dahil ilang days ang suspension dahil sa bagyo. And first kong tiningnan if may students pa kami sa West,” Haia Eliza Franco, grade school teacher of WVSU, said.
After over an hour, WVSU’s Calinog campus also received a bomb threat.
"We are working closely sa Philippine National Police and other agencies para once and for all, mahuli na itong nagbabanta and provide disturbance,” said Dr. Joselito Villaruz, president of WVSU.
The series of bomb threats has bothered Iloilo Science and Technology – University Main Campus once more. ISAT-U received its third bomb threat since the previous week.
"Somehow this is already parang sabotahe in terms sa operations ng university,” Dr. Gabriel Salistre Jr., ISAT-U Main Campus president, said.
Further, bomb threat scared students and teachers at Huasiong College of Iloilo Main Campus at 10:11 a.m.
At past 11 a.m., Guimbal National High School in Guimbal, Iloilo received the threat. In the afternoon, Central Philippine University in Jaro District, Saint Therese MTC Colleges in La Paz District, and Iloilo Merchant Marine School in Pavia, Iloilo were the targets of the threat.
Other schools were already cleared, while the rest were on ongoing paneling, as of this writing.
Face-to-face classes and work in the affected schools have been suspended immediately.
According to Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, the Colegio de San Jose in Jaro received a bomb threat evening on November 16, 2025.
The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) 6 has considered the series of bomb threats to be alarming.
“Hindi na dapat i-take for granted. Ang ibang universities, nag-i-implement na ng strict policy. One entrance, one exit. Ang mga kabataan should wear their proper uniform,” Dr. Raul Muyong, CHED 6 director, said.
Earlier, the police have considered the identification of culprits as challenging, but assured that they are serious about going after the perpetrators behind the series of bomb threats.
“Patuloy ang ating investigation dito sa bomb threats in coordination sa ating RACU. Kasama natin ang Iloilo City Police Office upang matutukan ito, upang malaman kung sino ang nasa likod nitong bomb threats,” said Major Lailyn Sencil, spokesperson of PRO 6. — GMA Regional TV
