Filipinos kindle Christmas with displays from recycled materials
Used and old items such as tires, electric fans, and even motorcycle mufflers found their way not in the trash bin, but as colorful Christmas displays in some parts of the country.
According to a State of the Nation report by Oscar Oida, the botanical Christmas tree in Teresa, Rizal is adorned with butterflies made from pieces of rope.
Old tires were designed to make them look like giant mushrooms, while old electric fan covers were converted into flowers. Plastic bottles were also designed to resemble colorful petals.
In Sagay, Negros Occidental, recycling was at its finest as residents were able to create a Christmas tree from about 200 illegal mufflers confiscated from motorcycles. The same materials were used for the manger.
In Boac, Marinduque, locals were treated to an "around the world" Christmas, featuring miniature displays of some of the world's most famous spots.
The town also used lights to brighten the mood of the coming holiday season. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
