Truck driver, helper hurt in ambush in General Santos City
A truck driver and his helper were injured after assailants on a motorcycle shot them in Barangay Lagao, General Santos City.
According to John Consulta’s report in “State of the Nation” on Wednesday, the truck driver suffered gunshot wounds in the neck and shoulder.
The police said the victims made a brief stop to check their vehicle when the suspects approached them and opened fire on them. The assailants then immediately fled aboard their motorcycle.
Before he was rushed to the hospital, the truck driver identified one of the suspects as his former live-in partner.
“Naibigay niya talaga yung pangalan ng suspect. Upon review of the CCTV, na-confirm natin na babae talaga yung backride,” said General Santos City PS3 commander Police Major Renato Dungca.
(He was able to give the name of the suspect. Upon review of the CCTV, we confirmed that the backrider of the motorcycle was a woman.)
The female suspect was arrested after the incident but she denied involvement in the crime.
“Why would I have him killed? What would I get out of it? We don’t even have a child. I don’t have any idea about that, sir. Even if you review all the CCTVs, even if you ask the NBI now, I would agree to that. I’m not guilty,” she said in the vernacular.
Police are looking at a personal conflict as the possible motive behind the crime. Authorities are also tracking down the other assailant. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
