NGCP: Yellow alert on Visayas grid lifted

NGCP: Yellow alert on Visayas grid lifted

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has lifted the yellow alert status it hoisted over the Visayas power grid.

In an updated advisory, the NGCP said that the yellow alert status, which was supposed to be implemented from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., was lifted as of 1 p.m.

This, after the Visayas grid saw an increased available capacity of 3,044 megawatts (MW) against an expected peak demand of 2,325 MW.

The NGCP earlier announced that a yellow alert status would be raised over the Visayas due to insufficient power reserves amid the unavailability of several power plants.

A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.

The Luzon and Mindanao grids, on the other hand, remain at a normal condition. — Ted Cordero/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
