WATCH: Taal Volcano minor eruption recorded
Taal Volcano in Batangas had a minor phreatomagmatic eruption on Sunday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The eruption occurred at the main crater at 9:48 a.m. and ended at 9:50 a.m., PHIVOLCS added.
"This event generated grayish plumes that rose up to 750 meters above the crater before drifting southwest as recorded by the Daang Kastila(VTDK) thermal camera," it said.
PHIVOLCS shared a time-lapse video of the eruption.
Phreatomagmatic eruptions are caused by the interaction of magma and water, according to PHIVOLCS. These eruptions normally consist of multiple explosive events and their interval may vary.
"Alert Level 1 prevails over Taal Volcano," it added.
In its bulletin issued Sunday morning, PHIVOLCS said Taal Volcano had 27 volcanic earthquakes on Saturday.

Weak plumes which rose up to 600 meters high were also observed on Saturday. These drifted southwest.
PHIVOLCS reiterated that entry into Taal Volcano Island, especially the Main Crater and Daang Kastila fissures, should be prohibited.
Likewise, boating in and occupancy of Taal Lake should not be allowed, it added.
Flying aircraft close to the volcano is also hazardous.
At Alert Level 1 (low-level unrest), Taal Volcano poses possible hazards such as:
- steam-driven or phreatic or gas-driven explosions;
- volcanic earthquakes;
- minor ashfall; and
- lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas.
