5 Luzon dams open gates to release water
Five dams in Luzon had some of their gates open on Sunday to release water, data from PAGASA showed.
Angat Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan had three gates open at 3.0 meters as of 8 a.m. Sunday, discharging water at 359 cubic meters per second (cms).
The water level in its reservoir (also called reservoir water level or RWL) was at 212.13 meters at 8 a.m., which was above the normal high water level (NHWL) or spilling level of 210 meters.
Meanwhile, Ipo Dam, also located in Norzagaray, Bulacan, likewise had three gates open at 3.25 meters, discharging 454.20 cms of water.
Ipo Dam's RWL was at 100.73 meters, near its NHWL of 101.10 m.
In Benguet, Ambuklao Dam had one gate open at 0.3 meters, discharging water at a rate of 33 cms.
Ambuklao's water level at its reservoir was at 751.04 meters on Sunday morning, nearing the 752-meter NHWL.
Binga Dam, also in Benguet, had one gate open at 0.3 meters on Sunday morning, discharging 37 cms of water.
At 8 a.m. Sunday, Binga Dam's RWL was at 573.85 meters, just a few meters away from the NHWL of 575 meters.
Meanwhile, Magat Dam, which straddles the provinces of Ifugao and Isabela, had one gate open on Sunday morning at 1.0 m, discharging water at 221.22 cms.
Magat Dam's reservoir held 187.10 meters of water at 8 a.m., a few meters away from the 193-meter NHWL.
PAGASA said parts of Northern Luzon will have rains on Sunday due to a shear line.
Cagayan and Isabela may have 50 to 100 mm of rainfall on Sunday, according to PAGASA's heavy rainfall outlook.
The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) meanwhile is affecting the other areas of Northern Luzon. —KG, GMA Integrated News
