Teachers brave raging river in Bontoc, Southern Leyte amid Verbena
Some teachers braved a raging river in Bontoc, Southern Leyte just to get home, after it overflowed due to the rainfall brought by tropical cyclone Verbena.
According to Mariz Umali’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” the teachers were already in school when class suspension was announced on Monday.
The bridge was destroyed by tropical cyclone Tino, while the makeshift bridge was swept by the water due to Verbena.
In Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, a motorcycle rider lost balance in the midst of the raging flood, as the overflowing spillway challenged motorists to cross the road.
Floodwaters also entered some houses.
A coconut plantation in Canlaon City was also not spared from the flood, while a bridge was submerged by a swollen river.
Residents of La Libertad City are looking for a senior citizen, who was swept into the river while crossing the overflowing spillway.
Rescuers assisted trapped residents amid the darkness and bad weather in Barangay Adrialuna, Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.
Due to the strong current, rescuers had to use ropes so residents can cross to safer ground.
Some motorists were stranded due to the flood caused by Verbena.
Heavy rains from the storm also caused the Aklan River to rise rapidly.
The Madalag and Kalibo local government units implemented forced evacuations due to the flooding.
A tornado hit Tangalan Town, tearing off the roofs of several establishments.
Meanwhile, the shear line brought heavy rains in Northern Luzon.
The Pinacanauan River and Cagayan River overflowed in Tuguegarao City, leaving houses flooded.
In Isabela, rice and cornfields were also submerged in floodwater, while some roads were submerged by heavy rain in Casiguran, Aurora.
