Barangay chairman in Masantol, Pampanga shot dead

The chairperson of Barangay Balibago in Masantol, Pampanga was shot dead by an unidentified suspect. 

According to the report of GMA Regional TV’s CJ Torida in “24 Oras” on Thursday, victim Jinqui “Buboy” Quiambao was on his way home after attending the town mayor’s birthday party at the municipal hall when the incident happened. 

“Pabalik na sila dito sa kanilang respective na barangay. Pagbaba niya sa sasakyan, na lilipat na sana siya sa sasakyan niya, doon na siya pinagbabaril. Noong dinala sa hospital ay declared dead upon arrival,” said Pampanga Police Provincial Office director P/Col. Eugene Marcelo. 

(They were returning to their respective barangays. After he exited the vehicle, just as he was about to transfer to his own car, that’s when he was shot. He was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.) 

The police are now investigating the evidence they retrieved from the crime scene. 

Meanwhile, the victim’s family is seeking justice. 

“Hindi po namin na ma-imagine na nangyari iyon at hindi niya po deserve ang krimen na ito kasi napakabuti niya pong tao, napakabuti po niyang nanunungkulan,” said Rina Quiambao Atienza, the victim’s sister. 

(We really cannot imagine what happened, and he did not deserve this crime because he was a very good person, he  was a very good official.) 

The Masantol Police is still coordinating with other police stations to arrest the suspects. The police are also determining the possible motive behind the killing. 

Police data showed that from 2022 until present, there are now six barangay chairpersons in Pampanga who were killed.

This occurred after the barangay captain of Tres de Mayo, Digos City, Davao del Sur was fatally shot during a live video feed on Facebook Tuesday evening.  —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
