Cyber warrant sought vs 7 probable culprits in Iloilo City bomb threats
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has filed in court an application for cyber warrant for the seven social media accounts involved in the series of bomb threats to schools in the city.
The seven are part of the 20 social media accounts being investigated by the ICPO along with the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU) 6.
The cyber warrant will help determine if the social media accounts are of one individual only, or of separate persons.
“With the cyber warrant, maliban sa mabigyan tayo ng awtoridad, ma-access rin natin online ang mga detalye sa mga personalidad sa likod ng mga accounts,” Major Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson, said.
(With the cyber warrant, apart from being given authority, we can also access online the details of the personalities behind the accounts,)
Sangrines added that there is a huge challenge in filing the complaint against the culprits as four schools have not decided yet.
“Hinihimok natin sila na sana, ma-expedite ang requirement natin na kailangan natin ang kooperasyon ng paaralan na involved,” Sangrines also said.
(We urge them to expedite our requirement that we need the cooperation of the schools involved.)
According to data of Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, a total of 73 bomb threats were recorded in Western Visayas in November 2025.
Cases were filed to at least two suspects. One of them is alias “Cate,” of legal age, resident of Iloilo City, pinpointed as the person who sent a bomb threat to Ramon Avanceña National High School on November 18. The other is alias “Jojo” who owned up sending a bomb threat to Oton National High School.
PRO 6 determined that the sending of bomb threats is not organized.
“We don’t want to disclose the investigation. But we have numbers na nakukuha and our anti-cybercrime group is working on it and soon those numbers will have their identities and cases will be filed to those people,” according to Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, PRO 6 director.
As various Christmas-related activities are expected to draw crowds, PRO 6 has a warning: “We hope to see na wala nang magbo-bomb threat kasi nga kakasuhan namin. Hahabulin natin yung mga ito,” Ligan underscored.
