LTO suspends driver’s license of motorist who let minor child drive

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday ordered the 90-day suspension of the driver’s license of a motorist in Echague, Isabela who allowed his minor child to drive a vehicle.

LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao directed Geronimo Santos, officer-in-charge of the LTO Regional Office in Cagayan Valley, to issue the suspension order.

This was after a video of the child operating the vehicle amid the rain went viral on social media.

In a statement, the LTO said it also issued a show cause order (SCO) against the motorist for allowing his child to drive the vehicle, potentially endangering other motorists.

“Dahil dito, pinapanagot siya ng LTO sa posibleng paglabag sa Reckless Driving at Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle,” the LTO said.

(Because of this, the LTO wants him to be held accountable for reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.)

The motorist is required to submit a written explanation within three days on why his driver’s license should not be suspended further or canceled.

The LTO said failure to reply to the SCO will be considered a waiver of the motorist’s right to air his side. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
