LTO suspends license of driver who hurt man pushing cart as seen on viral video

Motorist hurting a man pushing a cart

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Monday announced the 90-day suspension of the driver’s license of a motorist who allegedly hurt a man pushing a cart as seen in a viral video.

Based on the show cause order, the LTO said “the driver's license of the driver operating the subject motor vehicle shall be placed under ninety (90) day preventive suspension, which shall be surrendered immediately upon proper identification, pending investigation of this case.”

The LTO added that its chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao warned that the license of the concerned driver may be revoked.

Lacanilao also said the incident occurred in Antipolo City, Rizal.

According to the LTO, the show cause order stemmed from a video circulating online showing an unidentified driver of a pickup vehicle striking a man who was with his daughter and pushing a cart.

“Mariing kinondena ni LTO Chief Lacanilao ang pananakit ng drayber sa isang ama na may kasamang anak na batang babae na nagtutulak ng kariton na nakasagi sa menamaneho nitong puting Toyota Hilux,” the LTO said.

(LTO Chief Lacanilao strongly condemned the driver’s assault on a father and his young daughter who were pushing a cart that hit the driver of the white Toyota Hilux.)

“Makikita sa viral video na kumalat sa social media, ang ginawang paghampas ng drayber ng sasakyan, sa ulo ng magkakariton sa harap mismo ng kaniyang anak na menor de edad na pumapalahaw sa pag-iyak dahil sa matinding takot,” it added.

(The viral video that has been circulating on social media shows the driver of the vehicle hitting the man on the head right in front of his minor daughter who was crying in fear.)

The concerned driver was asked to appear at the LTO office in Quezon City on Wednesday to explain.

The pickup vehicle of the concerned driver was also placed under alarm status.

“Failure to appear and submit the notarized comment/explanation as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your right to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the LTO said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
