2 soldiers killed, 3 hurt in NPA landmine blast in Balatan, CamSur — 9th ID
Two soldiers were killed while three others were wounded when landmines allegedly deployed by New People's Army (NPA) rebels exploded in Balatan, Camarines Sur, the military reported on social media.
According to a Facebook reel Saturday by the Philippine Army's 9th Infantry Division (ID), the incident occurred at Barangay Cabungan last Friday.
The wounded victims were said to be soldiers as well.
The 9th ID described the incident as an "attack" on government forces using anti-personnel mines, which it asserted was in violation of International Humanitarian Law as such weapons put civilians at risk.
It assured that security operations in Bicol Region would continue in the aftermath of the event. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
