Kanlaon Volcano logs ash emission

Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted ash on Monday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

PHIVOLCS said the ash emission began at 4:05 p.m. and lasted for nearly two hours.

“The ash plume rose 900 meters above the summit and dispersed generally toward the northwest,” PHIVOLCS said in a social media post.

The agency added that thin ash may have affected communities in La Carlota and Bago cities, as well as Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Alert Level 2, indicating a moderate level of volcanic unrest, remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano.

Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft near the volcano are prohibited.
