Power supply disrupted after man walks on power lines in Davao City

Several areas in Davao City experienced power interruption on Christmas Day after a man climbed an electric post and walked on power lines in Barangay Ilang.

In an advisory, the Davao Light and Power Co. (Davao Light) said the emergency power interruption affected Purok 6, Buhisan, Tibungco to Km 18 National Highway, Tibungco via Daang Maharlika Highway; Purok 15, Panuntungan St., Barangay Km 18 Crossing Eliong Road to Km 17-1 Bunawan near Unifrutti to Crossing Malagamot Panacan.

Davao Light said the man climbed near the 69kV line around 8:49 a.m., prompting the power utility to isolate the 69kV line loading of Pampanga Substation temporarily.

Police cordoned off the area to facilitate rescue.

Later, personnel from the Davao Light and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) arrived, and the man was successfully rescued.

Power was restored shortly after midday.

According to authorities, the man’s sibling said he has a mental health condition. The man reportedly left a construction site in Samal Island, where he worked, at around 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve while they were drinking.

Police added that the man claimed he was being chased by a dog and was experiencing hallucinations. He also allegedly admitted to using illegal drugs.
