Graduating student drowns in Antique resort

A 21-year-old graduating male student died after drowning in a cold spring resort in Pandan, Antique.

According to the report of Super Radyo Palawan’s Darwin Tapayan on Tuesday, the victim was from Barangay San Isidro in Jaro, Iloilo City. 

Investigation by the Pandan Municipal Police Station showed that the victim and some relatives were on their way to Buruanga, Aklan when they found out about the resort online in Barangay Guia in Pandan. 

When they stopped over at the resort, the group did not rent a cottage or any life jackets which were available, the police said. 

Witnesses said the victim, along with his uncle and cousin, jumped in the deepest part of the river despite not knowing how to swim. 

The victim was declared dead upon arrival at Justice Calixto Zaldivar Memorial Hospital.

The authorities are awaiting for his family’s decision if they would pursue filing a complaint against the resort management, the report added. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
