Is gun in viral traffic video real or a toy? Cagayan de Oro police checking

The authorities in Cagayan De Oro City are looking into whether the gun in the viral video showing a motorist brandishing a pistol in traffic was real or just a toy.

According to the report on "24 Oras" by James Paulo Yap of GMA Regional TV, the motorist told police that she was showing the gun to ward off vagrants.

The Cagayan de Oro City Police Office said it was coordinating with the Regional Civil Security for firearm verification to determine if the gun being shown by the driver was real.

“Ipinaabot na natin ang mga resulta nito. Ang naturang sakyanan, naka-alarm na. Nabigyan na rin ang owner nito ng suspension order na 90 days,” Police Captain Emilite Simon said.

(We have already handed out the results of this. The said car is already under alarm. We have already suspended the owner of the vehicle for 90 days.)

“Usually daw, pinapakita niya [ang baril]. Nagdadala siya ng toy gun para panakot sa beggar dahil nabiktima na raw siya,” she added.

(They said that they usually show [the gun]. They bring the toy gun to scare beggars because they said they were previously a victim.)

The said incident occurred last December 29 when viral footage caught a driver holding a gun while making obscene gestures after getting stuck in traffic at the corner of 8th Street and Hayes Street in Cagayan de Oro City.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Northern Mindanao has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the owner of the vehicle involved in a recent gun-toting incident in Cagayan de Oro.

Due to the incident, the driver may face suspension or revocation of her license.

“Hindi ka dapat maglabas ng baril. Anong gusto mong ipakita, manakot ka? May pagka-road rage… Kapag road rage usually, revocation agad ang penalty niyan eh,” LTO Region X Director Nelson Manaloto said.

(You should not pull out a gun. What did you want to do, scare people? That’s similar to road rage… If it’s road rage, we usually implement the penalty of revocation right away.) –Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
