Rains bring flooding to several areas in PH; 1 dead after boat capsizes in CamSur
Rains caused flooding and other mishaps in several areas of the Philippines due to the easterlies and the shear line over the weekend, with some LGUs suspending Monday classes as a result. Moreover, one person died while another went missing after a boat capsized due to strong waves amid inclement weather in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, over the weekend.
According to Oscar Oida’s report on 24 Oras Weekend on Sunday, trips of small boats in Caramoan and other parts of Camarines Sur were suspended following the incident.
Some roads in Caramoan also became impassable due to flooding.
In Tayasan, Negros Oriental, residents were seen risking their lives while crossing a spillway amid raging waters.
Meanwhile, heavy rains caused waist-deep flooding in Manjuyod, also in Negros Oriental. In some parts of the town, vehicles had difficulty crossing flooded roads, while motorcycle riders were stranded.
Large rocks also cascaded onto a portion of the national highway in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, disrupting traffic.
Parts of Victoria, Oriental Mindoro were likewise flooded over the weekend.
In Tacloban City, Leyte, residents braved heavy rains since Saturday evening, which resulted in knee-deep flooding in some areas.
In South Cotabato, three barangays in T’boli were flooded, prompting the evacuation of 14 families, according to the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office.
In one barangay in T’boli, raging floodwaters destroyed a bridge.
Flooding also affected a church in Valencia City, Bukidnon. The pastor said the situation was worsened by an unfinished drainage system near the church.
In Cagayan de Oro City, six families in Barangay Balulang lost their homes due to flooding.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the shear line and easterlies caused rains over the Visayas, while easterlies also brought rainfall over Mindanao.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
