The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 23 persons who were stranded aboard a partially submerged boat in waters off San Pascual, Masbate, on Saturday.

In a statement, the PCG reported the successful rescue of 20 passengers and three crew members of the recreational boat Harlyn.

The vessel was en route to Sombrero Island in San Pascual when it struck an unidentified hard object, causing water to enter the boat and partially submerge it.

The incident occurred about one to two nautical miles from Sombrero Island.

All rescued individuals were safely transported to Sombrero Island for further assistance.

The PCG said an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident, in line with maritime laws and regulations.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
