Kanlaon Volcano spews ash; Alert Level 2 still up
A weak ash emission was reported at Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
In a Facebook post with time-lapse footage of the ongoing event, PHIVOLCS said the volcano’s summit crater started to spew ash at 5:55 a.m.
“This event generated grayish plumes that rose to 350 meters above the crater before drifting southwest, as captured by IP camera at Kanlaon Volcano Observatory–Canlaon City (KVO-CC) stations,” PHIVOLCS said.
Alert Level 2 remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, which means there is an increased unrest. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the volcano.
Under Alert Level 2, entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) and the flying of any aircraft close to the volcano are prohibited. —KG, GMA Integrated News
