Amid an onset of a dome collapse pyroclastic density current (PDC) or “uson,” the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS ) said Tuesday that Alert Level 3 will be raised over Mayon Volcano in Albay.
PHIVOLCS said it will provide more details soon.

Here's what Alert level 3 means and how the public should prepare:
- Relatively high unrest
- Seismic swarms, including the increasing occurrence of low-frequency earthquakes and/or harmonic tremor (some events felt)
- Sudden or increasing changes in temperature or bubbling activity or radon gas emission or crater lake pH
- Bulging of the edifice and fissuring may accompany seismicity
- Should the trends continue during alert level 3, PHIVOLCS warns of a hazardous eruption within days or weeks.
State seismologists, meanwhile, said that 85 rockfall events were recorded in Mayon in the past 24 hours, from 12 a.m. of Monday, January 5 until 12 a.m. of January 6. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
