The Camalig, Alabay local government unit announced that it will evacuate its residents within the 6-kilometer permanent danger zone at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, as Mayon Volcano was raised to Alert Level 3.

Camalig Mayor Caloy Baldo made the announcement on his social media post.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS ) earlier reported an onset of a dome collapse pyroclastic density current or “uson” in Mayon Volcano in Albay and subsequently declared Alert Level 3.

In the past 24 hours, 85 rockfall events were logged in the volcano in the past 24 hours from 12 a.m. on Monday, January 5 until 12 a.m. on January 6.

Alert Level 3 or High Level of Volcanic Unrest means that magmatic intrusion to shallow levels of the edifice is driving unrest, with indications that a hazardous eruption could occur in weeks.

Earlier, PHIVOLCS reported incandescent rockfall was observed at the summit of the volcano, that occurred at 10:46 p.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026 and was recorded by camera and seismic monitors of the Mayon Volcano Network.

Danger zones may be expanded to a radius of six kilometers from the summit crater or active vent. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
