Whale shark found dead in waters off Bantayan Island

A dead whale shark or “butanding” was found floating in the waters off Bantayan Island in Cebu.

According to a “24 Oras” report on Tuesday, the deceased whale shark was nine meters long.

The Philippine Coast Guard, which responded to the incident, and some barangay tanods said they found a wound on the whale’s carcass.

Authorities will hold a meeting with concerned agencies to determine what to do with the remains of the whale shark. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
