Davao City Fire District warns vs prank calls
The Davao City Fire District (DCFD) has warned that anyone making prank calls to its emergency hotlines will face charges.
DCFD is determined to sue a caller who allegedly made a false report that a fire had broken out in Bankerohan on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
Firefighters did not see any fire when they responded to the scene.
It was learned that the caller is a resident of Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
DCFD identified the prank caller through SIM card registration and filed a blotter and incident report at the Sta. Ana Police Station.
“Upon receiving the call on-site na wala naman palang sunog, we already identified (consider) it as prank call since may inconsistencies na doon sa kanyang report… he was not on-site ang caller natin,” DCFD Spokesperson, Fire Senior Inspector Frances Sendrijas, said.
DCFD warned that prank callers will face charges under Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code.
“Nade-deploy unnecessarily ang mga bombero natin so nade-delay ang response. What if may tumawag na legitimate na sunog, nade-delay ang response. What if ang responding unit sila rin ang tinawagan ng legitimate na sunog talaga?” Sendrijas added.
Authorities added that such calls can cause public panic and fear.
DCFD clarified that it conducts a thorough investigation before classifying a call as a prank, accidental, or misdial. — GMA Regional TV
