Teachers brave raging river in Sultan Kudarat to reach school


Rains brought by the easterlies and shear line flooded several towns in Mindanao, damaging a makeshift bridge and other structures.

In Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat, teachers held on to a rope as they crossed the dangerous, raging river to reach school and hold classes, according to a report on Saksi.

Strong currents slammed a hanging bridge in T-boli, South Cotabato, eventually cutting off the cable on one side.

The furious floodwater also uprooted several trees.

In Makilala, North Cotabato, an excavator was almost swept away by the raging waters of the river.  The operator of the equipment, who was inside, was able to navigate it to safety.

Tagum City in Davao del Norte was flooded, punishing motorists and commuters.  Several motorcycle and four-wheeled vehicles were stranded due to the flood.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the easterlies brought the rains in these towns.

Meanwhile, due to the shear line, Palo, Leyte experienced massive flooding, turning streets into river.

The flood also wreaked havoc in the towns of Viga and Baras in Catanduanes.

In Barangay Asuncion and Barangay San Roque, some houses were almost submerged due to the large volume of water.

The flood left thick mud in Barangay San Isidro and Barangay San Jose.

In Goa, Camarines Sur, good Samaritans offered help to make residents cross the spillway that overflowed. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
