Kanlaon Volcano emits ash anew as Alert Level 2 still up
Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted ash again on Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
In posts on its social media accounts, PHIVOLCS said the ash emission began at 2:58 p.m. of January 7, 2025 and is still ongoing.
“This event generated grayish plumes that rose to 900 meters above the crater before drifting northwest, as captured by IP camera at Kanlaon Volcano Observatory–Canlaon City (KVO-CC) stations,” it said.
The post included a time-lapse video of the ongoing ash emission as captured by the KVO-CC stations.
Alert Level 2, which indicates increased unrest, remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano, PHIVOLCS added. Sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur in the volcano.
Kanlaon Volcano also spewed ash on Tuesday morning, generating grayish plumes that rose to 350 meters above the crater before drifting southwest.
On Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) updated its notices to airmen (NOTAM) for Kanlaon Volcano, Mayon Volcano, Bulusan Volcano and Taal Volcano.
