Marcos hails DPWH for completion of Camalaniugan Bridge in Cagayan
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Thursday lauded the Department of Public Works and Highways for the completion of the Camalaniugan Bridge despite the challenges being faced by the agency.
As he led the inauguration of the said bridge in Alcala, Cagayan, Marcos said this would serve ''as a model for many of the other bridge projects that we will be seeing around the country.''
''So, I congratulate the Public Works sa – for their very good work here and to see that everything was completed on time and on budget,'' Marcos said in his speech.
''And despite all of the – all of the other issues that we're having to deal with, patuloy pa rin ang kanilang naging trabaho at kaya naman, nakarating na ang araw na ito na binuksan natin ang Camalaniugan Bridge (they continue with their work and because of that we reached the day that we inagurated the Camalaniugan Bridge),'' he added.
Marcos said the bridge could bring more businesses and employment in Cagayan province.
The Camalaniugan Bridge has a total length of 1,580 meters, consisting of 1,100 meters of approach bridges and a 480-meter cable-stayed main span.
It directly links the towns of Camalaniugan and Aparri, providing a crucial new transportation connection in Cagayan province.
The project seeks to develop an alternative route to the Magapit Suspension Bridge, the only bridge that previously crossed the Cagayan River in the northernmost part of Cagayan. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
