Cavite cop nabbed after shooting at police in buy-bust op, 1 hurt
A 28-year-old cop was arrested after he allegedly fired his gun during a buy-bust operation that he was not a part of in General Trias City, Cavite and wounded a fellow police officer, authorities said Monday.
Cavite Acting Provincial Director Police Colonel Ariel Red said the incident happened around 8:20 p.m. on January 8 in Sitio Gongan, Barangay San Francisco.
“During the process of arrest a sudden gunfire occurred toward the operating team, hitting one of its members,” Red said in a press conference.
One member of the buy-bust team sustained a wound on his lower back and was brought to a hospital for treatment.
“This prompted the operative to return fire, which led to the retreat of the attacker of the suspect. A follow up operation was immediately conducted , which led to the identification of the perpetrator,” Red said.
The man who shot at the operating police officers was identified as a 28-year-old patrolman assigned to the PNP Maritime Group in Cavite.
He underwent an alcohol test following information that he may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, the police official said.
A criminal complaint for direct assault and frustrated murder was filed on January 9 before the Office of the City Prosecutor of General Trias City against the suspect.
He is currently detained at the custodial facility of the General Trias police station. — RF, GMA Integrated News
