10-wheeler racing another truck rams eatery, houses in Antipolo

Authorities are looking for the driver and passenger of a 10-wheeler truck that crashed into several houses, electric posts, and an eatery in Barangay Mambugan, Antipolo City, after it was allegedly racing with another truck along the Sumulong Highway.

According to EJ Gomez’s Monday report on “24Oras,” the truck’s front section crumpled while the front tires were destroyed.

There were no reported casualties from the incident.

According to the eatery’s owner, they just closed the establishment so there were no people inside when the incident occurred on Sunday night.

Meanwhile, resident Zenaida Relles’ two-storey house was damaged.

According to Barangay Captain Rey Santiago, the truck driver and passenger fled after the incident, possibly out of fear. The duo was seen boarding the truck they were allegedly racing with.

A representative of the truck company faced the authorities and the affected residents.

He said the truck came from Pampanga and delivered sand to Manila. It then went to Antipolo to load soil that was supposed to be delivered to Bulacan.

Edwin Climaco, the truck company’s representative, said they only learned of the incident through social media and have been unable to contact the driver and his assistant.

He also promised that the company will shoulder the damage.

Authorities called on the 37-year-old driver and the passenger, both residents of Pampanga, to surrender and bear responsibility for their actions.

The incident caused slight traffic congestion. Barangay personnel cleaned the debris scattered along the road, including soil from the truck.
