The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on early Tuesday morning observed a short-lived incandescent lava fountain that shot up to a height of 100 meters at the summit crater of Mayon Volcano amid its continued unrest under Alert Level 3.

The volcanic activity was recorded by PHIVOLCS’ monitoring cameras from the Mayon Volcano Observatory and the Mayon Resthouse Station at 1:39 a.m. of January 13.

State seismologists shared footage of the incandescent short-lived lava fountain on its social media accounts.

PHIVOLCS said the event lasted approximately 35 seconds.

Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, with entry into its six-kilometer permanent danger zone is strictly prohibited.

Earlier, PHIVOLCS said it recorded 133 rockfall events from 12 a.m. Sunday to 12 a.m. Monday as well as 37 occurrences of pyroclastic density currents (PDCs). — JMA, GMA Integrated News
