Cebu archdiocese to observe 'Day of Mourning' for Binaliw landslide victims

Cebu Archbishop Alberto "Abet" Uy has announced that a "Day of Mourning" will be observed in all parishes for the victims of the landfill tragedy in Barangay Binaliw in Cebu City.

All parishes across the Archdiocese have been called to dedicate Masses on Friday, the 16th of January "to the victims of the tragedy, as well as to their bereaved families and loved ones."

"May the Lord grant eternal rest to those who have died and comfort to those who mourn."

The announcement, the archdiocese said, is in consonance with the declaration of the Cebu City government to observe the same.

As of Wednesday, January 14, 2025, the death toll from the deadly landslide has risen to 20, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

According to Mariz Umali’s “24 Oras” report, seven bodies were retrieved from the landfill as of 6:30 p.m. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
