Albay suspends face-to-face classes starting Friday, Jan. 16 due to Tropical Depression Ada

The province of Albay has announced the suspension of face-to-face classes starting Friday, January 16, 2025 in all levels in public and private schools due to Tropical Depression Ada.

The announcement contained in Advisory No. 2026-03 issued by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council-Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office and signed by Governor Noel Rosal said the suspension of face-to-face classes will be in effect until lifted.

Schools are directed to shift to alternative learning modalities.

The advisory also prohibits all types of vessels from sailing once the Philippine Coast Guard issues a travel advisory.

Residents are also told to refrain from holding outdoor activities as the tropical depression could trigger flooding, landslides, and lahar flow in some barangays.

The governor has also ordered the prepositioning of relief goods and emergency vehicles for early evacuation measures.

Residents who may be affected by the wind, flood, landslide, debris flow and lahar are also advised to evacuate to safer grounds starting Thursday morning until noon.

The province has also activated its disaster operation center that will operate 24/7.

Based on the tropical depression's track and intensity outlook, Ada will pass close or make landfall in Catanduanes on Saturday or Sunday.

Several towns expected to be affected by the inclement weather also earlier announced the suspension of classes.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
