5-ton load limit set for Liloan Bridge – DPWH
Only vehicles of up to five-tons are allowed to cross the Liloan Bridge in Southern Leyte beginning Thursday, January 15, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said.
“Effective January 15, 2026, a strict 5-Ton maximum gross vehicle weight limit is enforced on all vehicles crossing LILOAN BRIDGE in the interest of public safety,” the advisory read.
The DPWH said that this is an increase from the previous three-ton limit imposed due to safety concerns following the magnitude 5.8 earthquake that struck San Francisco, Southern Leyte in January 2025.
The Liloan Bridge was one of the structures that was affected during the earthquake.
“Motorists are enjoined to observe this regulation and use alternate routes/ports as necessary. Your cooperation is essential in ensuring the safety of all road users and in preserving this vital infrastructure,” the department added. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
