Death toll in Binaliw landfill trash slide rises to 26 amid search efforts
The death toll in the trash slide that hit the Binaliw Landfill in Cebu City has hit 26 after six more remains were recovered from the site.
According to Mariz Umali's report on " Saksi," one of the fatalities has yet to be identified. Ten other persons remain the subject of the search.
This developed as the rains on Thursday raised concerns that another trash slide might occur while the search operations continued.
One of the fatalities was the husband of Julifer Villanueva.
"Kahit ayaw na niya, pinipilit pa rin niya magtrabaho kasi walang pera. Para sa mga bata," Julifer said.
(He continued to work even when he no longer wanted to for money. For the children.)
Survivor Fritz Villanueva said the workers at the site had been fearing something bad might happen, but they had to continue working for their livelihood.
"May kakulangan talaga sila, ma'am," Villanueva said, referring to the landfill management.
GMA Integrated News is still getting the reply of Prime Waste Solutions regarding the alleged deficiency.
The loved ones of the victims are asking for assistance for their families.
"'Yung education ng mga anak, ba? Kasi, sino ba naman ang magpuprovide? Wala na yung breadwinner ng family," said Arlene Ople, who lost a brother. —NB, GMA Integrated News
