Girl, 7, hit, run over by pickup truck in Ilocos Sur; dies

A seven-year-old girl died after she was hit and run over by a pickup truck on the national highway in Barangay Uso, Suyo, Ilocos Sur evening on Friday, January 16, 2026.

CCTV footage showed an orange pickup truck approaching when the victim suddenly ran across the road from the right side and was hit by the vehicle accidentally.

The victim was then run over twice after the impact.

The victim’s mother rushed toward her, while the pickup driver got out of the vehicle and approached the victim and her mother.

The victim sustained injuries in different parts of her body. She was brought to the Ilocos Sur District Hospital in Tagudin but was declared dead on arrival.

The 33-year-old pickup truck driver from Itogon, Benguet was taken into police custody after the incident.

Investigators have yet to determine where the pickup truck was headed at that time, as of this writing.

GMA Regional TV is reaching out to the driver for a statement while the family of the victim has yet to comment, as of this writing. —GMA Regional TV
