Two dead bodies found in Albay unlikely due to Mayon, Ada — PDRRMO
The two dead bodies found in Albay are unlikely related to the unrest of Mayon Volcano and Tropical Depression Ada, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said on Monday.
According to Oscar Oida’s report on “24 Oras,” the bodies were found on San Miguel Island in Tabaco City and in Sula Channel in Bacacay. PDRRMO is still determining the identities of the two.
“Sa tingin namin walang koneksyon sa volcano and sa Typhoon Ada. Because as to the state of the decomposition as reported, medyo advanced na siya," said Roderick Mendoza, of the Albay Public Safety and Emergency Management Office.
(We think there is no connection to the volcano or Typhoon Ada. Based on the reported state of decomposition, it was already quite advanced.)
"So before pa siguro nag-Typhoon Ada nangyari yun, nagkataon na nahanap sila kahapon (So the deaths likely happened even before Typhoon Ada. It just so happened that they were found only yesterday),” he added.
Meanwhile, over 1,000 families are temporarily staying in evacuation centers due to Mayon’s unrest.
Some evacuees, however, are worried about their livelihoods left behind in Calbayog, which is located within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone.
“Kawawa po yung mga hayop, walang magpapakain. Siyempre mamamatay sila kung hindi sila pinakain,” said Jessa Volante, who is seeking temporary shelter in Barangay San Jose in Malilipot.
(The animals are in a pitiful state; there is no one to feed them. Of course, they will die if they aren't fed.)
The provincial government held a consultation with stakeholders on how to help the evacuees with their livelihood.
But evacuees may not return home anytime soon as magmatic unrest persists in Mayon.
“Meron pa rin siyang tendency to escalate. Nandiyan pa rin yung ating pagmamanman dahil nga dito sa intensity na sinasabi nila na pwede siyang tumaas,” said Mendoza.
(It still has a tendency to escalate. Our monitoring continues because of the intensity they mentioned, which could still increase.)—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
