PHIVOLCS: 'Uson,' rockfall observed on Mayon Volcano
Incandescent pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or “uson” and rockfall were observed on Mayon Volcano late Monday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The uson and rockfall, the agency said, continually shed by Mayon Volcano onto the Miisi, Bonga and Basud Gullies on Monday, January 19, 2025.
"Thin to traces of ashfall have been reported in Legazpi City and Daraga," PHIVOLCS said.
Alert Level 3 prevails over Mayon and entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone must be prohibited, PHIVOLCS added.
Earlier today, Mayon Volcano in Albay logged 19 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours.
A total of 297 rockfalls and 57 pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) were also recorded to have occurred from 12 a.m. Sunday to 12 a.m. Monday, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin.
