Cainta Mayor Nieto to take medical leave

Cainta Mayor Nieto to take medical leave

Cainta, Rizal Mayor Kit Nieto has announced that he would be on a medical break beginning Monday, January 26, 2026.

In the official Facebook page of Nieto, it was disclosed that he was confined in the hospital since Sunday after he complained of severe chest pains.

"Angiogram procedure revealed mutiple blocks in all his major arteries. He is under close medical monitoring and his movements have been likewise restricted," the statement read.

"Today, he alongside his family, will decide on the options laid on which kind of medical procedure/surgery to be undertaken to address his condition," it added.

As part of efforts to assure Cainta residents that government services will not be affected by his decision, Nieto designated Vice Mayor Ace Servillon to act as Mayor effective Monday "until such time as he is able to recover and reassume his post."

"His scheduled activities including all events leading to his birthday on the 31st have all been put on hold," according to the statement.

"He conveys his good wishes to the people of Cainta and promises to return as soon as he gets a clean bill of health from his doctors." — BAP, GMA Integrated News
