2 workers pinned to death by falling bags of cement at Cebu site

Two construction workers were killed after bags of cement fell on them at a construction site in Mandaue City, Cebu.

According to a report on Balitanghali on Tuesday, authorities said eight bags of cement were being hoisted by a crane to the 19th floor of the building when the crane’s cable snapped, causing the load to fall.

The two workers were pronounced dead at the scene. Another construction worker was injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Police said the construction site’s management has already coordinated with authorities. GMA Regional TV is still seeking a statement from the management.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has also launched an investigation to determine whether proper safety measures were in place at the construction site.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
