Man arrested in Lipa City for firing gun at teens over doorbell prank

A man was arrested after allegedly firing a gun at a vehicle following a doorbell prank by a group of Grade 12 students in Lipa City, Batangas, early Monday morning.

The Batangas Police Provincial Office said the incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. when the students were dropping off a classmate at his residence while riding in a car.

“While waiting, one of the victims pressed the doorbell of the suspect’s residence, which may have triggered the suspect’s anger. Fearing for their safety, the driver immediately sped away from the scene,” police said in a statement.

Authorities said the suspect went outside his house armed with a short firearm and fired at the vehicle from behind.

The students later informed their parents about the incident, who then reported it to the Lipa Component City Police Station.

Police arrested the suspect in a follow-up operation and seized an Optimus Custom caliber .45 pistol with one standard magazine containing two live rounds of ammunition.

The suspect is currently under the custody of the Lipa CCPS and is facing charges of attempted murder and violation of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
