Drug bust ends up in high-speed car chase in Cavite, 1 suspect dead

What began as a buy-bust operation in Bacoor City, Cavite on Tuesday became a high-speed car chase that ended up in the death of the suspect, who fired back at arresting policemen near an exit of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX) in Kawit.

According to Dano Tingcungco’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday, the suspect stole an unmarked Asian utility vehicle (AUV) of the police operatives who conducted the drug bust in Bacoor City.

This sparked a car chase that reached Kawit town, with the suspect even ramming the mobile car of the Bacoor police and firing shots at law enforcers several times.

“Tina-try na ipatabi pero ayaw daw po tumabi, instead pumutok po (raw) sa kanila,” said Lt. Col. Alexie Desamito, Bacoor police chief.

(We tried to get him to pull over but he refused, instead he fired shots at our policemen.)

The suspect’s AUV also hit two motorcycles, a tricycle and a sports utility vehicle (SUV) during the car chase. The victims were immediately given first aid.

The chase finally ended at the Kawit Exit of the CAVITEX when policemen fired at the tires of the AUV.

“Ayaw po niyang buksan ‘yung pintuan, so binasag na po ‘yung silamin sa likod. Tapos while ginagawa ‘yun, bumaril na po. So no choice na po ‘yung tropa kung di makipag-sabayan na rin po,” Desamito said.

(He refused to open the door so our policemen smashed the windshield at the back. While they were doing that, he fired shots at them. So our cops had no choice but to exchange fire.)

The suspect died in the shootout, which caused heavy traffic in the area since other vehicles had to take a detour while authorities processed the crime scene.

The area was finally opened to vehicular traffic at around 5 p.m. Tuesday after authorities finished processing the crime scene and the AUV was towed away. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
