Earthquakes hit offshore Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat —PHIVOLCS
Earthquakes jolted offshore Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat on Wednesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The strongest of the earthquakes was magnitude 5.9 recorded at 2.46 p.m.
Intensity V was felt in Kalamansig and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat. Intensity III at Malungon, Sarangani; City of Koronadal, Norala, Santo Niño, Tampakan, Tantangan, and Tupi, South Cotabato; Esperanza, Sultant Kudarat; Intensity II in Zamboanga City; Kabacan, and Pikit, Cotabato; Maitum, Sarangani; Polomolok, South Cotabato; General Santos City; President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat; Intensity I in Banisilan and City of Kidapawan, Cotabato; Alabel and Maasim, Sarangani.
The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of focus of 4 kilometers.
No damage is expected but aftershocks may happen, according to PHIVOLCS.
Before this, a magnitude of 5.1 earthquake was recorded near Kalamansig town at 2:31 p.m., PHIVOLCS said.
Intensity IV was felt in Lebak and Intensity III in Palimbang.
The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of focus of 10 kilometers.
No damage or aftershocks are expected from the seismic activity, according to PHIVOLCS.
Two magnitude 5.5 earthquakes were also recorded at 4:34 p.m. and 4:38 p.m. Both earthquakes have a depth of focus of 10 kilometers.
The recent earthquakes were part of the ongoing earthquake swarm in offshore Sultan Kudarat, PHIVOLCS said.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
