Nearly 100 ex-rebels surrender in Davao del Norte
Nearly 100 alleged former rebels have surrendered to government forces in Talaingod, Davao del Norte on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
According to the Army’s 10th Infantry Division (10ID), the individuals were former members of dismantled guerilla fronts, Pulang Bagani Commands, regional headquarters, and sub-regional committees under the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) of the New People’s Army (NPA).
The Provincial Government of Davao del Norte said 95 former rebels have surrendered - 74 from Talaingod and 21 from Agusan del Sur.
The mass surrender was facilitated by the 60th Infantry Battalion and local government officials.
The former rebels also turned over at least 29 assorted low-powered firearms.
During the ceremony, they received food packs and financial assistance from the local government as they begin their reintegration into the society.
10ID commander, Major General Alvin Luzon, said the activity was not only a mere surrender but a shared commitment to lasting peace and development.
“This is not a surrender for me—this is an embrace of Kalinaw. Starting today, you are no longer former rebels; you are our peace partners. When we work together as one government and one community, progress will continue, and the soldiers will always be here with you,” Luzon said. —GMA Regional TV
