1 soldier killed, 1 hurt in Maguindanao del Sur clash

A soldier was killed while another was injured in a gun battle with alleged local terrorists in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao del Sur.

The 6th Infantry Division (6ID) identified the fatality as Corporal Ryan Jun Bagual, a member of the 90th Infantry Battalion and a resident of President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.

6ID said the troops were in an operation after receiving reports about the alleged terrorists planning to sow terror in Sitio Bagurot, Barangay Tuayan Mother.

90IB troops engaged an undetermined number of alleged members of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Hassan Group in a firefight around 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

The wounded soldier was rushed to a hospital for treatment. He is reportedly in stable condition, as of this writing.

The military deployed additional troops to pursue and neutralize the terrorist group.

6ID commander, Major General Jose Vladimir Cagara, lauded the fallen soldier for his bravery.

“Ang kabayanihang ipinamalas ni Cpl. Bagual ay nagbibigay-dangal at karangalan hindi lamang sa 90IB at 6ID bagkus sa buong hanay ng Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas,” Cagara said.

Cagara also expressed his sympathies to the bereaved family.

“Hindi namin hahayaang masayang ang sakripisyo ng ating nasawing bayani. Ipagpapatuloy namin ang laban sa mga natitirang miyembro ng DI-HG at ihahatid ang hustisya para sa mga biktima ng kanilang mga teroristang Gawain,” he added. —GMA Regional TV
