Passenger with ‘bladed weapon’ at Iloilo Int’l Airport may face charges —police

The 54-year-old male passenger who allegedly brandished a "bladed weapon" at Iloilo International Airport on Wednesday may face charges, the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO) said.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Iloilo’s Sevein Hope Gegantoca on Super Radyo dzBB on Thursday, IPPO director Police Colonel Bayani Razalan said among the possible complaints to be filed against the passenger are attempted homicide, direct assault, grave threat, and resisting arrest.

According to the Department of Transportation's Office of Transportation Security, one of its security screening officers in the provincial airport flagged a prohibited item inside the passenger’s bag, which called for a secondary screening.

However, the suspect seized his bag from the X-ray machine and fled the screening area. He then took out a "bladed weapon," which prompted a response from police officers at the airport.

The IPPO continues to coordinate with authorities in Cebu, where the passenger is confirmed to be a resident of, regarding his background.

The passenger was supposed to travel back to Cebu on Wednesday evening.

The IPPO is also helping the PNP-Aviation Security Group at the Iloilo International Airport in filing charges against the passenger. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BM, GMA Integrated News
