Grassfire observed over the slopes of Taal Volcano Island, says PHIVOLCS

An ongoing grassfire has been observed at the southeast slopes of Taal Volcano Island on Friday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

"These footages were captured by the IP cameras of the Napayong Island (VTNP) and the Taal Main Crater (VTMC) observation stations," PHIVOLCS added.

The DOST-PHIVOLCS continues to monitor the situation.

Alert level 1 prevails over Taal Volcano.

On Friday, PHIVOLCS reported one volcanic tremor that lasted for for 508 minutes, acidity of 0.3 in the Main Crater Lake, temperature of 58.1 degrees Celsius, and 257 tonnes of Sulfur Dioxide.

Up to 600 meters of plume was expelled while ground deformation was also observed.

The PHIVOLCS maintains its recommendation of keeping people from entering Taal Volcano Island, especially at the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures.

All types of aircraft are prohibited to go near the volcano.

The agency also warned of the possible occurrence of steam or phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, some ashfall, and emission of poisonous gas. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
