LTO summons 2 truck drivers for obstructing fire truck in Cavite

The drivers of two trucks who refused to give way to a fire truck responding to a fire incident in Tanza, Cavite are now in hot water with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

In Dano Tingcungco’s report on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, a video showed a fire truck weaving in and out of traffic upon receiving a fire alert in Tanza.

Thirty minutes later, another fire truck and another emergency vehicle were seen in the video. The two vehicles eventually sped off.

Later, a blue truck and a white truck were seen in front of the fire truck and allegedly refused to give way to the fire truck.

The fire truck attempted to overtake the white truck, but the blue truck suddenly maneuvered to the left, preventing the fire truck from overtaking.

The fire truck and the two other trucks eventually reached an area near the place of the fire, after which the drivers had a heated confrontation.

During the argument, the driver of the blue truck claimed to be an employee of the office of Tanza, Cavite mayor Archangelo Matro.

The video went viral on social media and caught the attention of the LTO, which issued a show cause order (SCO) against the two truck drivers and the trucks’ respective owners.

The two vehicles were also placed under alarm and the drivers’ licenses of the two truck drivers were also placed under preventive suspension for 90 days.

The LTO stressed that emergency vehicles like fire trucks have the duty to save lives and property of those affected by fire, and that giving way to these vehicles is required under the law.

The following day, Matro summoned the driver of the blue truck and said he will reassign the driver temporarily to another department.

The truck driver also issued a public apology for his actions.
