Barobo, Surigao del Sur mayor, bodyguard hurt in ambush

The mayor of Barobo town in Surigao del Sur and his bodyguard sustained wounds after their vehicle was ambushed in Barangay Dughan.

According to a “24 Oras” report on Wednesday, Barobo Mayor Ronie Martizano sustained a gunshot wound in his shoulder but is in stable condition.

His bodyguard was hit on the back, while their van was pelted with gunfire.

According to police, Martizano was returning from a meeting when another vehicle blocked their path, leading to the ambush on Tuesday.

Authorities are looking into Martizano’s stance against illegal mining in the area as a possible motive for the ambush.
