Security guard shot by superior after requesting for day off

A security guard in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas was shot by his officer-in-charge after the former requested for a day off, according to the provincial police on Friday.

Police report showed that the shooting happened at Purok 6, Barangay San Miguel around 11 a.m. on February 2.

Based on the investigation, the 30-year-old reliever security guard had asked for a day off from the 56-year-old officer-in-charge (OIC) security guard identified as “Sammy.”

But the OIC told the reliever to follow the assigned schedule of duty.

The reliever refused and reportedly became unruly, grabbed a bolo, and challenged the suspect to a fight. The OIC declined and advised the reliever to leave the area to avoid further confrontation.

A witness also tried to pacify the tension, according to the police.

Police said the reliever initially left but later returned and threw a hard object at the OIC, which prompted the OIC to fire a shot using his service shotgun.

The wounded reliever was brought by responders to St. Frances Cabrini Hospital for medical treatment.

According to the police, the OIC was arrested at the scene where an ARMSCOR 12-gauge shotgun was recovered.

The suspect will face a charge of frustrated homicide, police said. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
