Iligan City placed under State of Calamity due to Basyang

The Iligan City government on Friday has declared a state of calamity due to the effects of Tropical Depression Basyang.

The local government filed Resolution no. 26-101 during a special session, which will allow the city to access its calamity funds for relief services and assistance, as well as rebuilding damaged infrastructures.

“There is a need to declare the City as under the State of Calamity to unlock funds/release the much needed Calamity Fund and to utilize the same for the provision of relief services and assistance to the victims who are in evacuation centers and help rebuild damaged infrastructure,” read the resolution.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, during a public briefing on Friday, had shared that search and retrieval operations are now being conducted in Iligan City.

There were also 13 evacuation centers currently handling 432 families or more than 1,600 individuals.

“Nakikipag-ugnayan po kami particularly our regional office o field office rin sa Iligan City dahil mayroon po kaming mga natatanggap na mga request for augmentation support in the form of family food packs, hygiene kits, modular tents,” she said.
