Cadaver of suspected NPA member found in Camarines Sur

A decomposing body of an alleged New People’s Army (NPA) member was found by authorities in an operation in Lagonoy, Camarines Sur, the Philippine Army reported.

The Philippine Army said joint forces of the 83rd Infantry (Matikas) Battalion and the Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted an operation in Barangay San Sebastian last Thursday, February 5.

At past 6 a.m., they recovered one M16 rifle, one M203 grenade launcher, three magazines, and an illegal landmine.

Two hours later, authorities found the body, which was supposedly abandoned by his cohorts following an encounter last December 23 in Sitio Baliwag, Barangay Burabud in which five NPAs, including some senior leaders, were killed, the 83rd Infantry (Matikas) Battalion said.

Investigation continues to determine the identity of the cadaver, while follow-up operations by security forces are continuously held in pursuit of other NPA members. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
